COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 3900 S. KEDZIE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding a recent officer-involved shooting that occurred near 3900 S. Kedzie Avenue. COPA investigators responded to the scene and commenced an investigation.

On October 12, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when Chicago Police officers responded to a 911 call of an individual threatening another person with a gun at a bar. As officers arrived, they approached and engaged the armed individual. One of the officers gave verbal commands to drop the weapon and as officers attempted to disarm the individual, the individual’s firearm discharged. One of the officers then returned fired, striking the individual in the head. The individual and two officers were transported to local hospitals. A gun was recovered on scene.

COPA can confirm body-worn camera and third-party camera footage captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
