COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 300 W. DIVISION STREET
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding a recent officer-involved shooting that occurred near 300 W. Division Street. COPA investigators responded to the scene and began the investigation.
On October 13, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when Chicago Police officers responded to a 911 call from a passenger alerting authorities that there were weapons in the possession of other passengers in the vehicle they were traveling in. After searching the area, officers found the vehicle and gave commands for all parties to exit. The individuals in the vehicle did not comply and as officers engaged, the vehicle fled, resulting in an officer discharging their firearm. Officers then attempted to search for the vehicle, and located it abandoned a short time later. One individual is in custody and no injuries are known at this time.
COPA can confirm body-worn camera and in-car camera captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
