COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 11000 S. MILLARD AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update to an officer-involved shooting near 11000 S. Millard Ave. COPA investigators responded to the scene immediately and commenced an investigation.

On January 23, 2025, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when Chicago Police Officers responded to a 911 call from a person inside a residence who made threats against their family. Once officers arrived on scene, they observed an individual sitting in a second-story window. As officers attempted to verbally engage with the individual from outside the residence, an officer discharged their weapon, striking the individual, causing them to fall to the ground. The individual was then transported to a hospital in serious condition. An officer was also transported to a hospital for observation. A knife was recovered from the scene.

COPA can confirm body-worn camera captures the initial interaction and subsequent shooting. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
