COPA PROVIDES UPDATE ON OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 100 E. 57th ST
Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is providing an update regarding an off-duty officer-involved shooting that occurred near 100 E. 57th St. COPA investigators responded to the scene immediately and commenced an investigation.
On November 24, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates this incident began when an off-duty CPD officer was attempting to enter a building and observed an individual approaching, pointing a firearm in their direction. The off-duty officer produced a firearm, and an exchange of gunfire ensued. The off-duty officer was not struck by gunfire, and it is unknown at this time if anyone else was injured.
COPA can confirm portions of the incident is captured on third-party cameras. Materials related to this incident will be posted to our website in accordance with the City’s Video Release Policy within 60 days of the incident unless prohibited by court order.
