Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released video and other materials of an officer-involved shooting that took place near the 7400 block of South Bennett on Tuesday, February 26th, 2019
Our investigation has uncovered that the officer’s responded to a call of a man with a weapon. Upon arrival, five officers encountered the individual, which lead to a foot pursuit. During the pursuit, four officers discharged their firearms. A combined total of 44 shell casings were recovered at the scene. The individual was struck three times and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A weapon was recovered.
COPA’s investigation is ongoing and will determine the appropriateness of the officer’s actions in accordance with the Chicago Police Department use of force policy after a thorough and objective investigation.
