COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 5.20.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 5.20.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Mather High School Pre-Law Class Presentation – 5.20.24
COPA’s Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten & First Deputy Chief Administrator Ephraim Eaddy visited Mather High School to talk to pre-law students about our agency, help them understand civilian police oversight, and answer questions they have about careers.

GAP Builders Youth-Led Town Hall Meeting – 5.20.24
COPA had a great time attending the GAP Builders Youth-Led Town Hall Meeting.  At this outreach event, COPA had a resource table and shared with the public the agency’s role in police accountability. This event featured various speakers talking about the judicial system from the State’s Attorney Office, the Cook County Public Defender Office, the Office of Inspector General, and the Cook County Appellate Court. 

Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting – 5.21.24
Each month COPA looks forward to coming together with many community stakeholders and residents at the Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting. We are proud to be partners of this organization and we had a great time discussing with various community organizations ways that we can collaborate and help people learn more about our agency.

NWC Chicago Youth Advisory Council Meeting – 5.23.24
COPA had a great time attending the NWC Chicago Youth Advisory Council Meeting. At this meeting, the council began planning for a summer event in Belmont Cragin where young people can have a safe space and enjoy fun activities. COPA also shared information about our agency’s role in police accountability.

H.O.M.E (Housing Opportunities & Maintenance for the Elderly) Resource Fair– 5.24.24

COPA had a great time attending the Natalie Salmon House in Rogers Park for the H.O.M.E (Housing Opportunities & Maintenance for the Elderly) Resource Fair. COPA was able to set up a resource table and provide residents with information on our role in police accountability.

DFSS North Center Satellite Senior Resource Fair – 5.24.24
COPA visited this DFSS North Center Satellite Senior Resource Fair. We had a great time helping seniors in this community learn more about our agency’s mission and vision. During COPA’s visit, we provided seniors with an overview of our agency, explained the importance of police oversight, and answered residents’ questions about our agency. This event featured other resource vendors, activities, and snacks for seniors.
