COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 12.09.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 12.09.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. COPA at Northtown Library – December 09, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Northtown Chicago Public Library in the West Ridge community. The Northtown Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including English for beginners’ classes, game nights, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.

Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting – December 10, 2024

COPA attended the Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting held in the Austin community that was comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities. This meeting included former Mayor Lori Lightfoot who spoke on the Chicago Vibrant Neighborhoods Collective. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on how to file complaints or compliments towards CPD.

COPA at Roden Library – December 10, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Roden Chicago Public Library in the Norwood Park community. The Roden Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including hosting the CAPS meetings, a supper club, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.

COPA at Merlo Library – December 11, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Merlo Chicago Public Library in the Lake View community. The Merlo Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a Lego club, various film screenings, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.

COPA at Edgebrook Library – December 12, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Edgebrook Chicago Public Library in the Forrest Glen community. The Edgebrook Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a gift-wrapping day, Christmas painting & sing, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.

Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – December 12, 2024
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) at the Irish American Heritage Center. This meeting included a presentation from COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten to present our 2025 goals. CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.

COPA at Bucktown-Wicker Park Library – December 13, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Bucktown-Wicker Park Chicago Public Library in the West Town community. The Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a craft for grown up group, family game nights, and several story times. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.

COPA at Rutherford Sayre Park – December 14, 2024

COPA had a great time at the Chicago Park District Rutherford Sayre Park in the Montclare community. The Rutherford Sayre Park has ongoing activities and groups accessible to the entire community including a gym, crafts for families, and holiday celebrations. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information on how to file compliments and complaints towards CPD.
