COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 11.13.23
COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 11.13.23. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. COPA in the Community at Sulzer Regional Public Library – 11.13.23
COPA visited Sulzer Regional Chicago Public Library to help residents in the community learn more about our agency mission and vision. During COPA’s visit we provided the public with an overview of our agency, explained the importance of police oversight, and answered questions that residents had about our agency.
Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting at Kennedy King College – 11.13.23
COPA attended this monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA). CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency along with sharing any concerns or comments the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.
NEIU Fall 2023 Health Fair – 11.14.23
COPA attended Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Health Fair at the college campus on November 14th. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct with students and faculty at NEIU.

COPA attended the Mayor’s Office for People With Disabilities (MOPD) Resource Fair on November 15th. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share its agency role in police misconduct.
Chicago is With You Task Force Meeting – 11.16.23
COPA is a member of the Chicago is With You Task Force chaired by City Clerk Anna Valencia. The task force is made up of city departments and nonprofit providers who work with immigrant and refugee populations in the city. COPA’s participation allows us to share the agency’s role in police oversight with service providers who support these populations.

Thanksgiving Lunch with New Arrivals – 11.18.23
On Saturday, November 18th COPA co-sponsored and hosted a Thanksgiving Lunch for New Arrivals with the Illinois Venezuelan Alliance at three city-run shelters: Broadway Armory, Daley College, and Gage Park. Six COPA staff volunteered at the Broadway Armory to serve the traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, ham, stuffing, and mac & cheese to the new arrivals who will be experiencing their first Thanksgiving in the United States.
