COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 11.11.24
COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 11.11.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting – November 12, 2024
COPA attended the Leaders Network Community Monthly Meeting held in the Austin community that was comprised of faith and community leaders that work together to organize, strategize, and mobilize to improve the quality of life for the west side communities. The theme of this meeting was focused on fighting for economic empowerment and social justice. COPA attends these meetings to give out information on how to file complaints or compliments towards CPD.
Puerto Rican Cultural Center Youth Thanksgiving Committee Meeting – November 13, 2024
COPA participated in the Puerto Rican Cultural Center Youth Thanksgiving Committee Meeting in the Humboldt Park community. This committee is planning a youth-focused thanksgiving meal with a resource fair component open to all community members. As a planning partner COPA was supporting the organizing of this community event, where we will also set up a resource table to give out information on our role in police accountability.
New Life Centers Food Distribution – November 13, 2024
COPA was in Humboldt Park, at the monthly food distribution event at New Life Centers. Many families were receiving fresh produce and groceries and accessing resources at this monthly event. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.
Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) Monthly Meeting – November 14, 2024
COPA attended the monthly meeting of the Community Commission for Public Safety & Accountability (CCPSA) at Malcolm X College. This meeting included a presentation from Deputy Director Brian Fitzsimons on the 2025 CPD budget proposal. CCPSA holds a monthly community meeting to discuss updates to its agency and address concerns the public may have as it relates to affairs with CPD, Police Board and COPA.
