COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 10.21.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 10.21.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. CICS West Belden Fall Fest – October 23, 2024

COPA had a great time attending the CICS West Belden Fall Fest in the Belmont Cragin community. The fest included several children’s activities, games, good, and an Ofrenda to celebrate those who have passed. There was also a resource fair component to connect families with local resources.  COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.

My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting – October 25, 2024

COPA attended the My Chi My Future Monthly Convener Meeting hosted by Beyond the Ball anchor organization. The meeting included training from NAMI Chicago on supporting young people and mental health while fostering community connections to local violence prevention organizations.   COPA was informing about our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.

 

Marshall Square Resource Network Peace March – October 25, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the 10th Annual Marshall Square Resource Network Peace March in the South Lawndale community. The march included a rally, live music from a children’s choir, testimonials, food, and an Ofrenda with a message of peace. COPA was able to set up a resource table and give out information about our role in police accountability.

 

SGA Youth & Family Services Trunk or Treat – October 26, 2024
COPA had a great time attending the SGA Youth & Family Services Trunk or Treat in the New City community. The event offered a safe space for families and young people to trick or treat along with activities and food. COPA was giving out information about our role in police accountability and how to file compliments & complaints towards CPD.
