COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIAL FROM OFF-DUTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 10800 S. CAMPBELL

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released, to its website, video, and other materials from an off-duty officer-involved shooting near 10800 S. Campbell Avenue.

On July 23, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an off-duty officer-involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that this incident began when an off-duty Chicago Police officer was driving in their personal vehicle on their way to work. A vehicle with multiple individuals crashed into the officer’s car, at which time the one of the individuals exited their vehicle and discharged a firearm at the officer, who was still in their vehicle. The officer then returned fire, and the individuals fled the scene. The officer was not struck by gunfire, and no one is in custody.

COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy.
