COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 4.15.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 4.15.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. 4th Ward Senior Job Wellness & Resource Extravaganza – 4.15.24
COPA had a great time participating in this resource fair to share with residents in the 4th ward our agency mission, help them understand the importance of police oversight, and inform them of job openings we have available. This event was hosted by 4th Ward Alderman Lamont J. Robinson and Congresswoman Robin Kelly.

Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting – 4.16.24
Each month COPA looks forward to coming together with many community stakeholders and residents at the Nobel Neighbors Community Meeting. April’s meeting was held at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago in Austin. We had an opportunity to tour this new facility and discuss ways our agency and other community organizations can connect with youth.

 

COPA Student Presentation at Wells High School Pre-Law Class – 4.17.24
COPA’s Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten & First Deputy Chief Administrator Ephraim Eaddy visited Wells High School to talk to students in their law program. Students were able to learn more about the agency, our role in police accountability, and ask questions about the work that we do.

  

Bronzeville Youth Community Meeting – 4.18.24
COPA attended and had a great time at the My Chi My Future Youth Bronzeville area community network meeting. This event was comprised of various city agencies and organizations located in the Bronzeville area which included Douglas, Grand Boulevard, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Oakland, Washington, and Woodlawn communities that’s focused on creating safe space for our young people in the City.

Chicago Housing Authority Youth Kickback Resource Fair in Garfield Park – 4.18.24
COPA participated in this resource fair held in Garfield Park to help young people better understand the agency mission and explain the importance of police oversight.

Pop Up Book & Resource Community Fair – 4.18.24
COPA attended this youth focused Pop-Up Book and Resource Fair held on Thursday, April 18th. This resource fair provided youth and their families with an opportunity to engage in arts and crafts, sign up for a library card, learn about community resources, participate in giveaways, and receive free books and backpacks.

Mikva Challenge Public Safety & Justice Council Youth Leadership Event – 4.20.24
COPA in partnership with Mikva Challenge participated in the Safety & Justice Council Youth Leadership program that was held on Saturday, April 20th from 10AM-2PM at BUILD, Inc. (5100 W. Harrison Street, Chicago, IL 60644). In an era where community safety and police accountability are at the forefront of public discourse, this workshop provided a unique platform for dialogue, understanding, and collaboration. Led by passionate youth facilitators, the event bridge helped to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community while empowering the younger generation to actively participate in shaping the future of public safety. Key topics at this workshop discussed included policing and accountability; violence intervention; healing centered practices; and more.

Chicago Gun Violence Prevention Conference – 4.20.24
On Saturday, April 20th COPA’s First Deputy Chief Administrator Ephraim Eaddy and other staff at our agency had a great time attending the Chicago Gun Violene Prevention Conference 2024 held at Breakthrough Familyplex. This community event allowed COPA to collaborate and engage with attendees to help them better understand the work that we do.

Humboldt Park Earth Day Event – 4.20.24
On Saturday, April 20th, COPA attended Humboldt Park Earth Day.  This community event featured various community resource tables, food, and activities. At this outreach event COPA was able to set up a resource table and share with the public the agency role in police oversight. This is the second year COPA has been on the Planning Committee for the Humboldt Park Earth Day Clean-up and Celebration. We are proud partners of the Earth Day Committee and their efforts to create a fun family event to beautify the park.
