COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS WEEK OF 3.25.24

COPA had a great time engaging the residents of Chicago in the community during the week of 3.25.24. Our office is committed to helping residents understand how to file a complaint or compliment an officer and explain to the public our role in police oversight. Below is a brief description of our most recent community engagement efforts. Glow in the Dark Paint & Sip Teen Spring Break Event – 3.25.24

COPA partnered with Austin Experience, Project Exploration, and Chicago Park District to attend a special Glow in the Dark Paint and Sip event held at the Urban Essentials Coffee Café. This event was created to provide teens with a safe space of fun during their spring break. COPA had a great time helping teens understand the work that we do at our agency.

LUCERO Family Health & Resource Fair – 3.26.24
COPA attended the LUCERO Family Health & Resource Fair which was held in the South Chicago community and hosted by the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center of Community Engagement and Cancer Health Equity. Residents were able to connect with community organizations, access resources, and receive health screenings. Alderman Peter Chico was onsite to welcome everyone. COPA had a great time informing attendees of this event about our agency.

Roosevelt University COPA Presentation – 3.26.24
Our very own COPA’s Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten presented to a group of college students at Roosevelt University criminal justice course on criminal investigations. Students were able to learn about COPA’s investigative process and ask questions about civilian oversight.

DFSS Bingo with the Seniors – 3.27.24

COPA visited the Department of Family and Support Services Southwest Regional Senior Center. During our visit COPA had a great time engaging with senior citizens by playing bingo with them.

Strive 2 Thrive Teen Summit – 3.28.24
On March 28th COPA was in the South Shore neighborhood at the Strive 2 Thrive 2024 Teen Summit hosted by the Urban Male Network, Chicago Youth Centers, and DFSS. We had a great time helping teens understand the work that we do. This evet was created to provide teens with a safe space for fun during their spring break. Youth were able to participate in workshops focused on sports, arts and crafts activities, and learn about how to respond in a positive way to life challenges.

Northwest Community Alliance Meeting – 3.28.24
COPA meet with various not-for-profit organizations to discuss community resources that can be offered to Latino communities in Chicago. COPA had a great time connecting with various community leaders and presenting our agency’s role in police accountability.

City of Chicago’s My Chi My Future Teen Spring Break Kickback – 3.29.24
COPA partnered with Rincon Family Services and Northwest Center for this spring break kickback event held on March 29, 2024. Our agency enjoyed tabling at this event and connecting with young people to help them learn more about our agency. This teen spring break kickback event included various community resources, access to teen employment opportunities, fun activities, and a taco truck for youth to enjoy some good food.

Livefree Chicago Women’s History Month Luncheon – 3.29.24
COPA had a great time attending Livefree Chicago Women’s History Month Luncheon. This was a great event where COPA was able to connect with various organizations focused on championing various justice issues. We look forward to future opportunities to connect and partner with Livefree Chicago.

City of Chicago My Chi My Future Teen Bash – 3.30.24
On Saturday, March 30th COPA attended the City of Chicago My Chi My Future Teen Bash 2024. COPA had a great time tabling at this event and helping young people understand the work that our agency does. Young people at this fair, which was held during their spring break had access to various community resources, fun activities, and free food at this teen bash.
